The Wuhan Gang, including Joseph Stilwell, Agnes Smedley, Evans Carlson, Frank Dorn, Jack Belden, S.T. Steele, John Davies, David Barrett and more, were the core of the Americans who were to influence the American decision-making on behalf of the Chinese communists. It was not something that could be easily explained by Hurley's accusation in late 1945 that American government had been hijacked by i) imperialists and ii) communists. At play was not a single-thread Russian or Comintern conspiracy against the Republic of China but an additional channel that was delicately knit by the sohphiscated Chinese communist saboteurs to employ the above-mentioned Americans for their cause The Wuhan Gang & The Chungking Gang, i.e., the offsprings of the American missionaries, diplomats, military officers, 'revolutionaries' & Red Saboteurs and "Old China Hands" of 1920s and the herald-runners of the Dixie Mission of 1940s.
Wang Bingnan's German wife, Anneliese Martens, physically won over the hearts of Americans by providing the wartime 'bachelors' with special one-on-one service per Zeng Xubai's writings. Though, Anna Wang [Anneliese Martens], in her memoirs, expressed jealousy over Gong Peng by stating that the Anglo-American reporters had flattered the Chinese communists and the communist movement as a result of being entranced with the goldfish-eye'ed personal assistant of Zhou Enlai
Stephen R. Mackinnon & John Fairbank invariably failed to separate fondness for the Chinese revolution from fondness for Gong Peng, the Asian fetish who worked together with Anneliese Martens to infatuate American wartime reporters.

Robert Marquand of "The Christian Science Monitor", in June 03, 2004 edition, wrote an article entitled "New story emerges of an infamous massacre", which was to play into Chinese Communists' denial of massacre on the Square. CCP clandestinely thought that should the Square be cleared of any massacre, then the massacre of the Peking city would become a myth. In deed, they thought they could get away from it with the acquiesce of US, Russia and Japan. Henry Kissinger claimed that Chinese communists were most tolerant since no government in this world would allow mobsters to take over capital for so long. And, George Bush Sr was certainly eager to send brother Prescott and secret emissary Brent Scowcroft to renew relations with butchers. A reactionary communist regime, which is bent on destroying China and the Chinese people, would certainly meet the American criteria of "containing so-called 'sleeping lion' of the Orient", i.e., a 1850s policy that passed down from merchant-turned naval general Matthew Perry as well as revived in the US transfer of Diaoyutai Islands, i.e., Senkaku Gunto [Pinnacle Islands], to Okinawa [Ryukyu] of Japan in 1971. The underlying logic behind "The China Exception: Russian Communism being wicked, Chinese are good communists" is an inherent fear of the Yellow Peril, i.e., billion Chinese would actually enjoy real democracy, go to college and develop their intelligence.

The following Chinese language article in remembrance of June 4th, 1989 Massacre in Beijing, written by Lin Bin, somehow restored my confidence in the conscience and courage of the Chinese. The kind of volcano that we witnessed in 1989 might very well erupt again. I will hold my breath for it.

Comment By Ah Xiang

Though June 4th Massacre of 1989 had traversed for over a dozen years, the scenes still flashed vividly in front of my eyes, impacting my heart and shaking my soul. I, an eye-witness to the incident, will now inform the world public of the events that I had personally observed and heard about at that time as an addition to the historical materials already amassed. I hope that people could reach a more clarifying cognizance of this important historical event.

Muxidi - The Hot Spot of June 4th Massacre

Most people think that the most soul-shaking bloody-letting had occurred on the Tian'an'men Square. This was not conforming to the fact of truth at the time. The reason people had this false impression is that most foreign journalists were staying at Peking Hotel and had learnt about and reported on the events on and around the Square. The fact would be that Muxidi District, about 3-4 kilometers to the west of the Square, was a hot spot where innumerable heaven-and-earth moving acts had occurred. The troops from the First Column marching on the Tian'an'men Square, at Muxidi, had fired upon the masses of people, making Muxidi into an area where the casualties ran the highest. More, the Central Military Committee's helicopter had circled in the skies above Muxidi, issuing orders to have the troops fire the shots. One army unit from the Second Column had possibly had a mutiny, refusing to execute the killing order. [Highly disputable? Since it could be a plot to leave military trucks and other equipments on the spot for enraged people to destroy. Comment by Ah Xiang.] At Muxidi, the army incurred the heaviest losses, with many military trucks burnt. Also at Muxidi, the troops fired at the residential buildings of government ministers, killing and wounding some civilians and later leading to strong protests from senior ministry-level cadres. The most ugly farce ever played by the troops at Muxidi would be army's manoeuvres in shooting an initial TV news report about the people in support of army's crack-down on turmoils. Since I lived at Muxidi at that time, I had personaly witnessed the above series of events.

  Advent Of Storms

The army suffered a setback on the early morning of June 3rd when they tried to penetrate onto the Square with light equipment. The whole Peking city was shrouded in a tense atmosphere after that. On the noon of June 3rd, army first attacked the people with tear gas. When I returned home from work in the afternoon, I noticed that TV stations were announcing repeatedly the public notice from the martial law commanding headquarter of the army, which demanded that people should stay home at night instead of going onto the streets. We all sensed that the army would take drastic measures to tackle the issues on Tian'an'men Square and that the storm would for sure be coming.

After dinner, I, with extreme curiosity, went to Fuwai Street in Muxidi area to check out whether people still went to the streets or had stayed indoor. To my surprise, the eight-lane boulevard was packed with people who were discussing and debating events that had occurred early in the day and on the previous night without a slight regard for the warning from the martial law commanding headquarter of the army. A lot of people expressed deep concerns for the fate of students who still remained on the square, worrying that something like the April 5th 1976 kind of violent crackdown might happen. Some people began to move to the middle of the streets the cement dividers that were previously used for segregating the bicycle lane from the vehicle lanes. And, some people started to drive the buses and trolley-buses to the middle of the roads in the attempt of stopping military vehicles from coming to the center of the city. (Those buses had previously parked at roadside or near the terminals of 320 Route Bus and 114 Route Trolley-Bus.) To observe the events better, I climbed up to a high-rise residential building and took an encompassing view of the scenes from a window on the 10th floor. Across the 20-30 meter wide street were people who apparently intended to hinder the army from marching onto the Square in the same fashion as they did on May 20th the day when martial law was first declared. Even more shocking would be bicyles in hundreds of thousands, which showed that most people had ridden their bicyles from other districts for joining the exciting event. People might have figured that the People's Liberation Army dared not to shoot at the unarmed innocent people as the KMT government or Japanese occupation forces had been recorded to have done so on elementary school textbooks. Besides, Fuxing Road, outside of Fuxing-men City-gate, was a strip with a heavy concentration of military agencies and offices that were packed with army personnel. Fuxing Waijie Street, however, would be the unavoidable path to the Square leading from the western outskirts of Peking. People never had imagined that their naivety would make them pay a high price in blood-letting, something like a world-shocking bloody massacre to fall onto their heads.

Army Pushing Through Their Path Forcefully

Around 6 pm, several military helicopters flew along Chang'an Street in the direction of east to west and circled above Muxidi for a while before flowing to the west. I guess some high-ranking military officers must be riding on the helicopters for examining the situations and trends and then reporting to CCP's central committee. The arrival of helicopters had stirred a sudden tension in the atmosphere, leading people to conclude that the army might take action soon, just like the wind blowing through the high storey building before moutain rains were to pour down. At this time, over hundred motorcycles, with a young girl sitting on the backseats, flashed by from Tian'an'men Square, waving some colored flags and shouting slogans. Those motorcycles were called 'flying tiger' column which had played the role of liaison as well as inspiration of morale. It was rumored that motorcycle drivers had comprised of some proprietorship owners and children of cadre families since only those people were rich enough to have afforded the purchase of motorcycles at the time. Later, after June 4th Massacre, the public security bureau cracked down on those people. The populcae became aroused with the arrival of motorcycles and they moved to the side to give the right of way to the drivers and waved hands to express respect for the drivers. At about 8 pm, some motorcycle driver came over from the west, shouting, "Army had already passed Gongzhufen area. People over there had been resisting the army's march fiercely. Hurry up to their relief !" Many people jumped on their bicyles and rode westward. And, another few hundreds of people pushed 5-6 trolley-buses onto the Muxidi Overpass to have the fast lanes blocked completely. At this moment, Muxidi was already in a tense atmosphere. Shortly after 9 pm, standing on a tall building, I could hear people's loud shoutings propogating from the far away west like sea waves. The sky having turned quite dark and roadside lamps still on, I could not ascertain the events in the distance, but I could sense that the troops must have already pushed somewhere close to Muxidi. At this time, incessantly, wounded people were being sent over to Muxidi's Fuxing Hospital. When I discovered that people had been wounded, I promptly ran downstairs and encountered head-on a young lad who, with his hands pressing onto the wounds on his head, cursed the army loudly, "Damned they played real, fascists !" Earnestly intending to check out what kind of conflicts had happened between the army and the people, I walked westward without any slight regard for my safety. I crossed the Xing of the Muxidi Overpass and arrived at the westside.

Confrontation Beween Army & Great Wall Of Human Flesh

I was extermely shocked to find out that tens of thousands of people, sardine-packed on the ten meter wide road, had formed a human wall with a thickness of 200-300 meters.

Li Hongzhang's Poem After 1895 Treaty of Shimonoseki:

Having never released horse saddles or left chariots, I painstakingly worked out;
Till the reckoning of disaster did I find out that it was not easy to simply die.
For 300 years, the foot-steps of my motherland had been staggering;
Along the road of 8000 li distance were scenes of hardship-stricken mourning populace.
In the sobre autumn winds, I, a minister in solitude, was in tears beside my treasured sword;
With the sun setting, I now stand by the campaigning flag on the generalissimo's altar;
Dusts of war are still floating over all seas, with no sign of settling down.
Gentlemen, please not look upon the developments of our country as a disinterested bystander.

This is an internet version of my writings on "Historical China" (2004 version assembled by third-millennium-library.com), "Republican China", and "Communist China". There is no set deadline as to the date of completion for "Communist China". The work on "Historical China" will be after "Republican China". The current emphasis is on "Republican China", now being re-outlined to be inclusive of 1911 to 1950 and divided into four volumes of pre-1919, 1919 to 1931, 1931 to 1941, and 1941 to 1950. This webmaster plans to make the contents of "Republican China 1931-1941" into a publication for year 2007. For up-to-date updates, check the RepublicanChina-pdf.htm page. The objectives of my writings would be i) to re-ignite the patriotic passion of ethnic Chinese overseas; ii) to rectify the modern Chinese history to its original truth; and iii) to expound the Chinese traditions, humanity, culture and legacy to the world community. Significance of the historical work on this website could probably be made into a parallel to the cognizance of Chinese revolutionary forerunners in 1890s: After 250 years of Manchu forgeries and repression, revolutionaries re-discovered the Manchu slaughters and literary inquisitions against Chinese via books like "Three Rounds Of Slaughter At Jiading In 1645", "Ten Day Massacre At Yangzhou" and Jiang Lianqi's "Dong Hua Lu" [i.e., "Lineage Extermination Against Luu Liuliang Family"] in late 19th century. It is this Webmaster's hope that some future generations of Chinese patriots, including to-be-awoken sons and grandsons of arch-thieve Chinese Communist rulers [who had sought material pursuits in the West], would return to China for the goodness of the country.
